The LIGPLOT program automatically generates schematic 2-D representations of protein-ligand complexes from standard Protein Data Bank file input. The output is a colour or black-and-white PostScript file giving simple and informative representation of the intermolecular interactions, including hydrogen bonds and hydrophyobic interactions. A java-based editor called LigEd allows the final plot to be interactively modified and fine-tuned, if necessary.
LIGPLOT CAN NO LONGER BE DOWNLOADED FROM THIS WEBSITE AS IT HAS NOW BEEN SUPERCEDED BY LIGPLOT+ WHICH IS AVAILABLE FROM THE EUROPEAN BIOINFORMATICS INSTITUTE AT:
The program, which creates 2D diagrams of ligands and the interactions they make with the residues of the protein to which they are bound, remains one of the most popular pograms of X-ray crystallographers, NMR spectroscopists and protein modellers with an interest in small molecule interactions. This is the Windows-compiled version of the software. See here for the unix/linux source code version.
Typical industries that benefit from the use of the software include pharmaceutical, biotech and agrochemical industries.
